What is Typing Academy? Is it free?
Typing Academy (topzcphp.com) is a free online typing practice site with finger-placement lessons, English and Chinese pinyin drills, and mini-games. No sign-up is required—open the site and start practicing. We do not charge fees.
Who is it for?
It is aimed at children, parents, and beginners. Finger lessons start from the home row at a gentle pace; advanced modules suit learners who want phrases and longer texts. Parents can follow our guides for a 10–15 minute daily routine.
I have never typed before. Where do I start?
Begin with Finger Basics: learn the home-row keys ASDF and JKL; while looking at the screen, not the keyboard. Move on when accuracy is around 90%. The home page learning path and Guides section explain the full sequence.
How do Chinese pinyin lessons work?
Type syllables with Latin letters in half-width English mode—do not use IME candidate selection. For example, type nihao for 你好, not pick characters from an input method. The same hint appears at the top of pinyin lessons.
What is the difference between English and Chinese practice?
English modules focus on words, sentences, and dialogues. Chinese modules cover pinyin, idioms, and poetry. Build finger placement first, then alternate by interest.
What are the mini-games for?
Games reinforce speed and reactions in a fun way and support leaderboard scores. They are not a substitute for finger lessons—without proper technique, high scores are hard to sustain and bad habits may form.
How does the leaderboard work? What data is stored?
After a scored game, you may submit a nickname and optional class name. We store only what you submit plus score, game type, and time—no phone, email, or real name. See the Privacy Policy for details.
Is my lesson progress saved?
Lesson progress is stored locally in your browser (localStorage) on the same device. Changing devices or clearing browser data may reset progress. Leaderboard entries are stored on our server separately.
Can I practice on a phone or tablet?
The site is designed for physical keyboards. Virtual keyboards on phones and tablets are poor for touch typing. Use a computer for real practice; mobile is fine for reading guides and legal pages.
How long does it take to learn?
It varies. With 10–15 minutes daily, many learners type the home row without looking within one to two weeks. Consistency matters more than long single sessions. See our guide on balancing speed and accuracy.
Will there be ads on the site?
We plan to use Google AdSense to support hosting and content. No ads are shown before approval. When enabled, ads follow Google policies and stay separate from practice areas. See Privacy and Disclaimer pages.
